25 Creative Uses for Dryer Sheets

I've been meaning to take apart a blanket I made for the wee one before he was born, and re do it. It's a minky fabric blanket super soft and lovely, but the cotton backing I chose is not wearing very well. What can I say? I'm not a professional. But in taking it apart, I have decided I might try to embroider on it, with my machine . Since I havent used the embroider function of my machine in over a year, I am fresh out of stabilizer. I was thinking though, that I might be able to use dryer sheets though. They ARE roughly the same texture. I had to search the Internet though to make sure that I wasn't the only person out there with this crazy idea. In doing so, I came across this super creative list of 25 uses for dryer sheets. I loved it so much that I decided to share it! Please let me know if you have used any of these or have any of your own ideas. I'd love to hear them. Oh and btw, the minky blanket story... totally playing into this weeks giveaway!

  1. Dusting: used dryer sheets can knock the dust off nearly any surface, including furniture, blinds, car interiors, baseboards/molding. Also works for on saw dust and drywall compound.
  2. Keep bugs away: Tuck some in your picnic basket or under lawn furniture to repel bees from your juicy flesh and encourage them back to the flowers, where they belong. You can also rub a sheet directly on your bare skin to discourage would- be buggers from leaving their mark.
  3. Keep your clothes fresh: tuck a few fabric-sheets in your drawers to keep that “˜just-washed’ smell happening for weeks. Throw one in your dirty clothes hamper to prevent any rampant, residual odors from escaping into your bedroom.
  4. Scrub your showers: Lightly wet a used dryer sheet, and scrub to remove soap build-up and mineral deposits.
  5. Freshen your home: Place (or tape) a dryer sheet on your HVAC vents to scent the air circulating through your home. You can even place one alongside your filter in your central heating unit to distribute the scent. Also works on ceiling fans, and on the back of box/portable fans.
  6. Reduce static cling: Pat your self with a sheet to combat static on your clothes, stockings, and even long hair!
  7. De-stink your pets: Scrub incoming dogs or cats (especially wet ones) with a dryer sheet before the come back into your home. You can also place one in your litter box to cut down on odors.
  8. Clean your laundry room: When you finish drying a load, hold on to the dryer sheet, and wipe down the inside of your dryer’s drum, your lint trap, the outside of your washing machine and dryer, and scrub away any excess or spilt laundry detergent.
  9. Scrub the bugs from your car: Summer drives often equal insect gut polka dots all over your auto’s body and windshield. Simply wet your car down, and use a dryer sheet to scrub away carnage with ease.
  10. Wipe up hair: The cling of a dryer sheet is perfect to wipe up pet hair from your furniture, or even your own hair from your bathroom.
  11. In your shoes: Toss a dryer sheet in the toes of your shoes to minimize odors and prolong the just-purchased smell.
  12. While traveling: Place a few dryer sheets in between items in your suitcase to keep both your clothes fresh and to prevent your items from picking up any mustiness from old luggage.
  13. In your crafts: Use dryer sheets to add texture to cards, scrapbooks, etc. Also use for reinforcement in appliqué and quilting work.
  14. For diapers: Keep your used dryer sheets in your diaper bag, and roll one up in the diaper to prevent odors before you have to chance to throw it away.
  15. In the kitchen: Soak cookware with burnt or baked-on food in warm water, with a dryer sheet or two. Makes clean-up easier than you’d expect. Also works on cook tops and dingy cabinet doors.
  16. Clean paint brushes: Soak your used paintbrushes in warm water with a dryer sheet, and that pesky latex paint will come off in under a minute.
  17. In books: placing a dryer sheet in new books or photo albums will keep them smelling fresh, and can combat the musty paper smell of used or old books. Also works as a killer bookmark.
  18. In toilet paper: Roll up a dryer sheet in your toilet paper roll. Each time you spin, it releases a little freshness into your bathroom.
  19. As you sleep: keep a fabric-softener sheet in your pillow case and under your mattress or mattress pad for sweet dreams of summer all year “˜round.
  20. While sewing: use a dryer sheet to store your needles while threaded to keep them from tangling, for paper piecing whilst you quilt, and for backing for embroidery.
  21. Repel rodents: Use dryer sheets to keep out mice, skunks, squirrels, rats, etc from your basement, garages, boats, campers, and clubhouses.
  22. In your car: stash dryer sheets under your car seats and floor mats, and in your glove box and trunk for fresh scents as you travel.
  23. At work: Hide dryer sheets in drawers, behind computers, and in cabinetry to keep your workspace fresh, and combat your co-workers awful perfume or stale cigarette scent.
  24. In you vacuum cleaner: Place a dryer sheet in your vacuum bag or dust containment unit. As the hot air moves as you vacuum, you’ll bulk up your cleaning efforts. (Make sure this is in NO WAY a fire hazard)
  25. In storage: tuck dryer sheets in your rarely used items such as luggage, camping gear, sports equipment, or specialty craft or kitchen items to prevent the inevitable smells of basements, attics, and garages.

Weekend Wardrobe Babe Edition

This weekend I was inspired by wanting to wear this olive colored cardigan. The weather has finally started to cool off a little. The past month has been a nightmare, as far as San Diego weather goes. We're talking in the 80s people. I know, it's not that high, but my condo has no A/C and was like 88 degrees for a couple weeks in a row. Plus the humidity... Ugh. It was gross. Thank heavens for fans. I decided to pair it with a cream tank top and a plain black pencil. The pencil skirt is a fav. It has cool layers, or pleats, separated by a zipper. It's quite a cool detail, I got it like 3yrs at TJMaxx, when zippers were hot and all over the place. I thought it was pretty rad. I also wanted a little more fun in the outfit so I added these black lace tights. The tights are a bit tricky to wear, in the sense that they don't really define a nice sleek leg silhouette, so with flats, they're so-so, but a good heel, and they're not too shabby. Which brings me to the shoes! I love them! They are a black satin zip bootie pump, embellished with studs and rhinestones. They're pretty tall, I'm like 6ft with them on, but they're worth it. Top it all off with a necklace from the lovely... Anthropologie and we were good to go!

Cardigan: Mossimo. Target.
Skirt: Kenar. TJMaxx.
Shoes: Charlotte Russe
Necklace: Anthropologie.
This weekend I'm also including what one of my little sweet peas wore. I love dressing these boys up. I'm obsessed with mixing prints. For this guy, I chose a green, gray and orange plaid top, paired with a navy polka dot tie. With it, he wore, gray skinnies and blue high tops. Isn't he the cutest?! I may be biased, but he is adorable.

Shirt: Cherokee. Target.

Pants, Tie, Shoes: H&M
Happy Sunday! Hope I inspired you to mix & match!

Best Prices on Anthropologie's Capri Blue Volcano Candle

I am a candle hoarder. Ok, maybe not hoarder, (The Hus would beg to differ)  but I like to have a candle in my home and in in almost every room, except for the babes room... safety reasons. Anyway I would like to call myself a candle connoisseur. Im pretty qualified. But this little baby right here is my most favorite scent ever!

Ever walked in to Anthropologie, and thought, what is that  wonderful smell? I MUST have it in my home. Well, this is it folks. The Capri Blue Candle by Aspen Bay Candles, the scent is Volcano. A few scents that Anthro also burns in their stores as well are, Aloha Orchid and Paris. All from Capri Blue. In Anthropologie these candles will cost you around $28 each. With 100+ hours burn time, its worth the money and they instantly fill the house with a wonderful scent.

Oh, and  if you dont love it in the blue jar, ( I totally do) then they also sell it in a beautiful mercury glass jar...

Sometimes though if you are lucky you can get them cheaper on Amazon. You can buy them here.(affiliate link) Plus shipping, they are basically the same price as buying in the Anthro store. But if you sign up for Amazon Prime, which is $79 a year, you get free 2day shipping on anything you buy.. all year. So, if you buy a lot of things on Amazon, thats totally worth it and then this candle could be as low as $21. Um, that makes me want to talk to The Hus about Amazon Prime...Ps. Dont you just LOVE my cheese lady? She is not from Anthro, although she totally could be. She was a gift from my lovely Mother- In- Law, and I think she is just the cutest ever. Anyway, I hope you find this helpful when you are trying to make your home Martha worthy. Which reminds me, I have a ton of cleaning to do.. ugh. We're having the local missionaries over for dinner tonight. Taco salad tonight boys! Better get crackin...

Ps. This post was in NO way sponsored by Anthropologie, Amazon, or Amazon Prime. Im just sharing my love for beauty and a good deal! Oh, and HAPPY THURSDAY!

Never Been So Excited

Slowly, we are making upgrades to our place. We FINALLY got a new dishwasher. It's a Whirlpool WDT710PAYM, 24" stainless steel, and you know I'm in love. As soon as we got it set up I couldn't wait to load it. That feeling lasted for a good two minutes until I looked in the sink and saw all the dirty dishes I had to load. Oh well it was fun while it lasted...

This is so dorky, but I like so many things about it. The stainless steel sleek look. The Teflon coated dish racks that prevent rusting. The space saving placement of the silverware caddy and of course the fact that it's practically silent... I couldn't be happier... And this is just a dishwasher people.

Also, we are taking votes on paint color. We are planning on doing a chair rail with wainscoting on the bottom half of the wall in white, so the colored portion is the top half. Keep that in mind when you vote. Oh, and let me know if you want to know the color names. We have our favorite, but I love input.

Color 1,2,3

Thanks for the help!

Ps. This post was in no way sponsored by Whirlpool, I wish. But I just am really happy with my new dishwasher!

It has been too long since I have rewarded (bribed?) you guys for your loyal readership. And I think it is high time I do so. Today I got an email from Anthropologie saying that over 100 items have gone on sale today. As I write this I am currently thinking about what time I can get over  there tonight. Weekend Wardrobe

Heres a  peek at what I wore to church, the pretty much only time, I dress up during the week. Inspired by the desire to wear flats while I chase kids around (my own) at church. I love love love this top. Its from H&M in the exercise department and I think its $5. I bought it a while ago, but I am going to go back and check if they have more, and buy like 2 more. Ridiculous? Maybe. But I love the fit, and its really super soft and comfy. It has some stretch to it, which I think is a great for any article of clothing. For, when, you need some.. stretch. If ya know what I mean. This skirt is also one I love. I like the fun bright color, but having got it at a discount store for like $10, its losing its luster and I think its about to expire... The shoes, I wear a lot. A nice play on Oxfords. They are cute shiny fabric, almost cordouroy-ish, in gray and white and super comfy. I wear them with jeans and skirts.

Striped Shirt: H& M

Purple Skirt: TJ Maxx (maybe Ross??)

Shoes: Urban Outfitters

So... next weekend Im supposed to be going to a vintage inspired party at the Del Mar Fairgrounds! I cant wait to take pics, blog about and show you guys! Should be fun!

Sunday Confessions

I must confess. I'm lazy. Today's example, verbiage. I all too frequently use these terms. And not just in  my writing, but real life too.

Espesh - Especially
Adorbes - Adorable
Totes - Totally
Def - Definitely
Jel - Jealous
Gorg - Gorgeous
Perf - Perfect
Amaze - Amazing
Profesh - Professional

And I'm sure there's a few others, I just can't think of them right now. But I think that little list is deemed worthy of a confession. What's your confession? I'd love to hear it!

A Mom That Blogs

I know a lot of times it may seem like I'm this fancy blogger. But really, I only blog like a couple hours a week. Most of the time, I'm a fancy Mom. A fancy mom that does books and play dough and feeds my fish. Because they're my babies too. Most of my days look like this.

We have craft time, and reading time, naps (for the bitty) snacks and some days we go to the park or pool. I love being a mom first and a blogger.... Further down the list. I love being there to console my kids, and teach my kids, and play with my kids. A stay at home mom may sometimes feel like the longest babysitting job in the world, but I wouldn't want it any other way. I love the idea, that I'm shaping their lives, creating traditions and memories, while we celebrate their lives. I love the firsts. First steps, first word, first smile, first hug back to mom. Today while watching How To Train Your Dragon with the kids, I said, "Don't worry, some day we'll get a dog." My kid said back, "No, I don't want a dog." What?! That was a first. This guy LOVES animals. He said, " I just want a baby dragon." Ha. Of course he does. One more reason to love my job. My employer, is hilarious.
